I disagree with Associated Press columnist Paul Newberry’s perspective (Feb. 8) on the coin toss to decide who would carry the flag at the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
What could be more fair than a coin toss in what is only a popularity contest? That Shani Davis was black or had more medals than Erin Hamlin should have no bearing. Perhaps the young man’s own actions caused the vote to be a tie and not for him.
I proudly watched as Ms. Hamlin carried our flag in the opening ceremonies.
