Small farmers are taking a double hit right now. Their surface-water deliveries have been curtailed and, with ground water levels dropping quickly, they are drilling deeper wells they can’t afford.
I’m afraid it will be the end of some of them because of the time and expense of new wells. These are people who have been in our community for years. They spend money here.
They’re hard-working Hmongs, Mexicans, Armenians, East Indians and other ethnic groups. They’re our friends and neighbors. We need to limit new development, whether it is housing or agricultural and put a moratorium on new wells.
