Don’t close flood control parks

The Fresno flood control district has begun a campaign to close any park or basin if visitors do not comply with leash laws. So far, two parks have been closed indefinitely (Holland/Thorne avenues and Bullard/Fruit avenues).

I am sure most people understand the leash laws. However, how can you throw a ball and have your dog chase it on a leash? Bakersfield has six to seven leash-free parks. A lot of us either live in condos or apartments and some of us are seniors who need the exercise just as much as our pets do.

As a taxpaying citizen, why should we be penalized with closing the basins and parks just to prove a point?
