Fire Rudd, 3 deputy chiefs

City Manager Bruce Rudd’s apology (letter March 31) is as phony as a $3 bill (the remaining number of deputy chiefs).

The absurdity of saying a Bee reporter’s question about anything, let alone the police department, is inappropriate is what’s truly “out of bounds.” He’s never heard of the First Amendment.

This attitude reflects a public relations strategy of keeping the taxpayer in the dark and suggests officials always know what is best, so shut up.

In fact, it is time for a clean sweep of leadership at City Hall. Start with Mr. Rudd and three deputy police chiefs. The dollars saved could pay for at least seven or eight officers on 40-hour shifts.
