Go out to Martin Ray Reilly Park on any weekend when the weather is decent, and you will probably have trouble finding parking, on top of the many who walk there.
Basketball games are in full swing, people picnic and play football or soccer on the grass, the barbecue pits are in full use, and the playground is full of children. The park has been very popular, showing just how badly a decent park in the area was needed.
However, it’s now up to the city to maintain it, and Fresno has not done well at policing and maintaining parks in that area of town, so far. Pilibos Soccer Park has been severely under-maintained and under-policed, making it a less attractive place to take children these days, outside of soccer matches on the weekends.
Is it too much to ask for the city to have some officers or a custodian keep a close eye on the parks during peak hours? Are they also setting aside budget money for inevitable repairs, like a responsible city should?
