Buying a right to kill

When I read the March 27 article about the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service allowing big game hunter Corey Knowlton to shoot and kill an endangered black rhinoceros I was shocked. Doesn’t the word “endangered” mean that this species is quickly fading away and that we should protect them and not kill them?

Apparently being rich has more then the usual perks. It also means that you can buy the right to kill a creature that is living out its life in its own environment and because of its fading numbers has been put on the endangered species list.

I will never understand the need for some people to kill animals just for bragging rights. Shame on this hunter and shame on the Fish and Wildlife Service for allowing this to happen.
