The Fresno and Clovis city councils need to address the water emergency by banning all residential lawn watering.
Landscaping accounts for 70% of water usage and, since it’s optional, we must take some drastic measures now. Enough of these watering rules no one bothers to follow. If you ban all lawn watering, it will be simple to enforce, as anyone with a green lawn is in violation.
According to some experts, we have one year of water remaining in California — that had better scare everyone. Perhaps use the violation fines to finance an incentive program to convert tree/shrub watering zones to drip irrigation — at a minimum request residents to convert to drip.
I have already done drip, and I love it. I use less water, my shrubs/trees have never been greener, and I don’t have to deal with sprinkler overspray on my house and windows anymore.
