While shopping at Home Depot this past weekend for a $4 hose nozzle, I was issued a parking ticket. The ticket, which has a $303 fine, was for being partially parked in the crosshatched area of a disabled space. The left rear of my vehicle was slightly across the hatched area because there were shopping carts in the handicap space to the right of my vehicle.
I am a retired U.S. Navy Seabee with service-connected disabilities. I am aware that Mayor Swearengin needs money for her water projects, however I don’t believe taking that money from the pockets of disabled service members is the appropriate way of thanking them for service to their country.
Incidentally, the fine for unauthorized parking in a handicap space is $250.
