I gave birth to my first son in 1984. The vaccine debate had arisen and his father and I discussed the pros and cons. Also, the issue of circumcision was a hot topic. We were baby boomers. Options ran wild. We said yes to both.
However, we were close friends with another couple who vehemently opposed both. The pregnancies ran concurrently. They decided to take a religious objection when our children entered kindergarten. The mother’s logic was quite simple ... “Well, if all of your children are getting vaccinated, mine are protected.” Outrageous logic, now proving to be deadly wrong.
Fear. Rules. Be fearless and do what is right. I have not had a flu shot for 10 years — never got the flu.
I have built up immunities. Not so for young immune-free children. Diseases will find them in a classroom.
