Concerning the Feb. 5 online article “Student at center of Clovis High sex scandal was in love with teacher, police say,” by Pablo Lopez: As more facts come to light, it is mind-boggling that this was able to go on with not only one teacher but two. Whether proven or not, the fact that teacher Matthew Pena had a history of being investigated for this behavior should have been on his record. It was also extremely inappropriate for this female student to be able to stay at Pena’s home.
As parents, we expect to send our children to school and for them to be safe. We shouldn’t have to worry about educators taking advantage of their students. A change I would like to see in public education is all investigations being a part of an educator’s record. When it comes to our children, we can’t take any chances.
