I have just read President Obama’s speech at the National Prayer Breakfast, the speech criticized by so many non-believing Christians.
It is perhaps the most moving and meaningful speech since Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream.” It is a true call to what faith in God is about, no matter our religion or lack of it. It is a call to live up to the promise of our country. This speech has made me a President Obama fan and, I hope, a more humble believer in our loving God.
But why did President Obama mention the Crusades, ancient history? Ask Pope Francis why he chose the name Francis. Every Muslim knows that St. Francis of Assisi visited the Sultan in Egypt during the fifth Crusade.
