It’s past time that we gave our police officers more power to take wanted criminals, illegal guns and drugs off our streets before crimes can be committed. Fresno City and County should adopt a random stop and search of people and vehicles triggered by predetermined criteria such as when a child is gunned down, or when an elderly person has been the victim of a home invasion.
And when x number of homicides have been committed after Jan. 1 each year, the law is triggered for 30, 60, 90 days or the rest of the year, whatever. As long as the people who live here are (for the most part) obeying the laws and respecting the lives of others, they can expect things to be normal on the streets. But it’s not that way. Another innocent child has been taken from us, this time a 9-year-old little girl.
I would with all my strength vote for an ordinance or law where crime pulls the trigger for random stop and searches of people and vehicles in Fresno. If offered this opportunity to make Fresno safer for us all to live, I would take it.
