The front page story of the Jan. 17 Bee regarding the school lunch challenge should concern every citizen.
While it is admirable that there are people who are willing to share their time and talents to help others and they should be commended, it’s also sad that some children need this guidance at 6 or 7 years old. There is no question that all children should be taught to eat healthy. The concern is who should be teaching them to do so.
You don’t have to look to hard to find examples or programs showing families how they should feed, clothe and even breast feed their children. I realize that some of the programs may be necessary, but are we relying too much on having others do for us what we should automatically be doing?
How did our grandparents manage to raise families without all this outside assistance? Think about it.
