I find it truly amazing that anyone would use a vehicle as a safe place to leave his driver’s license, wallet, bank cards, garage-door opener, keys to everything they own and God forbid, a pistol, as Mr. Michael D. Perry did while dining in the Tower District.
He stated this in his Jan. 15 letter in The Bee. While I am sorry that Mr. Perry suffered this loss, I have to chastise him for being so generous to the thief by leaving all of his important personal belongings conveniently in his pickup truck for the bad guy to steal.
Because of the common tactic of thieves to “smash and grab,” smashing a vehicle’s windows to grab valuables inside, I never leave my wallet or any other valuables in my vehicle at any time — my wallet goes with me.
Mr. Perry, in the future, should never use a vehicle as a safe for valuables, be it daytime or even in a well-lit parking lot at night.
