I loved the juxtaposition of Henry R. Perea’s Jan. 6 op-ed, entitled “High-speed rail: Valley game-changer” with the letter by Carole Jacoby entitled “HSR benefits no one!”
Ms. Jacoby asks: “Who is in charge of high-speed rail? Obviously, people with no common sense!” Mr. Perea credits Gov. Brown, Chairman Dan Richard, CEO Jeff Morales and the HSR Authority Board for the ability to “move Californians across the state like never before.”
Mr. Perea says the HSR will “move through Palmdale and connect to the Los Angeles rail system.” Ms. Jacoby states “We already have Amtrak.” To which I ask, why not spend a fraction of the cost and connect Amtrak through Palmdale to the LA system?
Finally, Mr. Perea implies that the HSR benefits to Fresno County will make everything better and that “Our children and grandchildren deserve the same opportunities that our forefathers provided for us — to prosper and raise their families here in the Valley.” Ms. Jacoby wrote, “I am furious that my children and grandchildren will be paying off this insane train that will benefit no one. Shame on everyone who fought so hard to destroy our state financially.” Amen to that!
