Fresno has been my home for the last 32 years and I have no plans to leave when I retire. Unfortunately, more than one friend has told me lately that they will leave upon retirement because the air quality is so bad.
I have asked myself if there is something more I can do about air quality since I, too, have health challenges that are aggravated by pollution. What about asking every home and business owner in Fresno to double the number of trees on their own property?
The investment is minimal and the result would be substantial improvement in the air around us. We will breathe easier and relax a little more with beautiful surroundings. Plant fruit trees and enjoy the harvest or donate the fruit to the Community Food Bank.
Plant deciduous trees and collect the leaves in the fall for a community garden. Plant drought-tolerant trees and minimize water usage. Join Tree Fresno and help others plant trees.
These steps alone will not solve the problem. But as individuals, these are tangible actions we can take that will help for years to come.
