Michael Hanson, Fresno Unified School District’s superintendent, has announced the creation of three administrative positions with salaries well above six figures.
Hanson said, “These actions are in alignment with our strategy to attract, hire and retain high-performing individuals in a competitive labor market, which strengthens our organizational structure to improve student learning.”
How hypocritical. This superintendent and his school board have chosen to add to an already bloated and overpaid administration less than a month after a California Department of Education investigation found Fresno Unified is violating the law by failing to provide adequate special-education services, specifically speech/language services.
These services are lacking because Fresno Unified chooses to not be competitive, paying far less than neighboring school districts. As a result, speech/language pathologists choose not to apply. Mr. Hanson also encouraged Fresno Unified staff to “help recruit for our district.” I guess he means administrative staff, since that the only area where the district desires to remain competitive.
