I have read several articles about the GOP filling leadership posts. Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., has been chosen for a top GOP leadership spot and defended by House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield, even though Rep. Scalise admitted to speaking at a White Supremacist organization. Many of the articles miss much of the issue surrounding Rep. Scalise.
By their support, Speaker Boehner and Rep. McCarthy are essentially saying someone who participates in racist, divisive politics represents enough of the party in general that they deserve a position of national leadership within the party. That is scary.
Speaker Boehner and Rep. McCarthy should withdraw their support for Rep. Scalise, and members of the GOP should state their opposition to the racist, divisive politics Rep. Scalise has participated in.
