Appalled by guidelines

Regarding the article Nov. 17 about the new recommended timelines for mammograms and disregarding the effectiveness of breast self-examinations, I am shocked. This development is most unsettling.

I must say I would not have discovered my lump had I not been conducting my monthly self-exam. I was diagnosed with breast cancer before the age of 50. I was 48 at the time. That was more than seven years ago.
