Poor Michael Hanson hasn't received a raise since starting his position as Fresno Unified School District superintendent, and realistically a year and half is an eternity. Since his performance is more than satisfactory, a yearly salary increase of $75,000 seems fair -- and of course, an immediate bonus of $45,000 -- and why not automatic $25,000 yearly increases? Probably should make this increase retroactive to his first day on the job as well.
Since the state budget is only $14 billion short, it seems appropriate that Fresno State President John Welty's salary should also be reviewed. Then we can go back to Superintendent Hanson in two or three months for revisions.
I'm grateful that our board of trustees is tying pay scales to the private sector. Have you spent your bonus yet?
