The May 3 article, "Teachers proving to be the secret of academy's success ... students at KIPP demonstrating the power of knowledge," should make traditional public schools in Fresno sit up and take notice!
The students at KIPP Academy go to school for more hours and the last state API testing was an impressive 823. When these students started at KIPP Academy, they were behind academically, and now we see a difference. I understand that Fresno Unified School District Superintendent Michael Hanson has suggested extending the hours students attend school in Fresno. The teachers are against it. Are they more interested in teaching students or getting out early?
My hat is off to KIPP Academy! We are fortunate to have one of these fine schools in our community.
