Genocide question

Once more, the question of the Armenian genocide is coming up before Congress.

According to The Bee (editorial Oct. 3) “The resolution has 226 co-sponsors, more than the 218 needed for a majority, according to resolution sponsors.” It remains to be seen whether House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will allow it to come to the floor of the House. Even though she has supported it in the past, pressure from Turkey may well cause her to change her mind.

Why is it that Turkey is so consistently against it? Is it in denial? Recognition will bring a measure of healing and start the closure process.

Since the last election, Congress has passed no laws. Instead of obsessing with partisan politics, let us do something concrete for the whole of mankind. Failure to recognize it will mean that the genocide will be lost to history. What a tragedy!
