Oh please, give us a break. The recent political upheaval over funding our troops and a deadline that has been in the papers for the last week or so has nothing to do with the troops.
The bill is to provide funds to enable military commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan to respond to urgent humanitarian relief and reconstruction requirements.
It requires the secretary of defense to inspect periodically military medical treatment facilities. It provides funds to the government of Iraq to support the disarmament of militias and illegal armed groups, and provides funds to assist Liberia, Jordan and Lebanon.
There is nothing that provides monies to help support our troops. So President Bush should go ahead and veto this bill. Our troops won't mind; the money is not for them anyway.
