'A different world'

The Kids Day sales of the newspaper reminds me of my time, 75 years ago, of delivering the Lakeland Evening Ledger on a 10-mile route on a bike five days a week. I made a net profit of $1.50 per week.

I made 5 cents profit on each customer. That was when you could buy a loaf of bread for 10 cents. We made our fun with boats and canoes on the lakes with the alligators and snakes in Florida.

Later, my fees at the University of Florida were $35 per semester plus $5 chemistry lab fees. Breakfast at the College Inn was 25 cents.

My, what a different world we have today.
