I am a graduate of Fresno State. There have been stories about misdirected contributions to the university. Apparently, individual departments did not know about these funds. How could this possibly be?
Here is a suggestion: A personal "thank you" letter from each department chairperson for each and every contribution. A personal tour and sincere thanks and recognition from professors and students would be even better. In case of multiple departments, multiple acknowledgments.
This is called a "hand-shake" transaction. This requirement would alert every recipient department of a donation, and confirm to the donor or heirs that the donation had been gratefully received. Just imagine a family donating a million dollars toward math and physics, and then getting a personal "thank you" from the basketball coach.
