A success at Kaiser

Your recent headline, "Kaiser electronic record a pain," was off the mark. As a medical provider (and member) of Kaiser Permanente, I have been impressed by how the new electronic record "Health Connect" has improved the quality of the care we give and receive.

With this record, Kaiser's providers have instant access to such things as lab tests and radiology reports, colleagues' notes and patients' medications at any Northern California Kaiser facility. Doctors are now able to efficiently print out a summary of instructions for patients and patients can e-mail their doctors for advice and updates.

Even with occasional start-up difficulties with the system, Health Connect provides far superior access to important information than other facilities' bulky paper charts that fall apart, don't arrive in time for a visit or include handwriting that is barely legible.
