On a recent trip to Hawaii I noticed a sign in a local franchise convenience store which read, "We accept yen," as in the foreign currency of Japan.
I was immediately taken back to this past January, when a pizza chain located in several border states made national news by announcing they would accept pesos as a form of payment.
There was a national outcry at the move. Why? Because our country has now demonized any actions with ties to our neighbor to the south.
Accepting money from a neighboring country is simply good business. In this instant it also reveals a national hypocrisy.
