The shock is long past, but it still raises eyebrows when some teenage boys slouch around in public. They wear oversized trousers with the crotch of their garments hanging to their knees, several inches of pant leg stacked around their ankles and a bit of plumber-crack on display.
For many who don't know it, that style is known as "jaily" and it is a knockoff of the way prisoners dress. They aren't allowed to wear belts in jail.
I imagine most of the boys who affect the look know where it started, but I'll bet a lot of their parents don't.
