Feinstein stumbles

Let me first applaud Sen. Dianne Feinstein for her past voting record on senior issues, which was 100% according to the nationwide organization Alliance for Retired Americans. ARA represents more than 3 million seniors with more than 750,000 members in the California Alliance for Retired Americans. The 109th Congress had a disturbing record of being anti-senior.

Unfortunately, the senator has released an elephant in the living room of every American senior by co-sponsoring S 355 with Republican Pete Domenici of New Mexico. This bill would open the door for the Bush administration to try to privatize Social Security, giving Wall Street extra hundreds of billions while causing massive benefit cuts. The Democrats have blocked Social Security privatization in the past and are committed to continue doing so now. S 355 is a bad bill for current and future retirees.

We ask the senator from California: "What were you thinking?" We ask all California voters, especially seniors, to call her office at (559) 485-7430 or in Washington, D.C., at (202) 224-3842 and demand she withdraw her support for S 355. Leave the message: "Don't privatize our Social Security."
