In reference to Larry Miller's letter (Feb. 15) regarding The Bee's use of the term "bullet train," and that "no one associated with transportation professionally ever uses the term 'bullet' to refer to high speed rail service": I have been in transportation professionally for more than 40 years, with 10 of those years working for Southern Pacific Railroad and have heard the term "bullet train" for as long as I can remember.
I realize Mr. Miller wanted to make another point about how valuable high speed rail service would be for the San Joaquin Valley. However, he should understand the association with violence and "bullet trains" is coincidental. The Shinkansen of Japan, TGV in France and the Eurostar throughout Europe are all considered "bullet trains."
