'Second in line'

I learned in eighth-grade U.S. history that the speaker of the House of Representatives is second in line for the presidency. Past speakers have used secure military transportation, for their protection and the good of the Union, to return to their constituency.

Why the tempest in a teapot for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi? Is it because she's the first speaker to live on the West Coast, and therefore needs a larger (read more expensive) aircraft to travel such a long distance?

No, I think it is because she is both a Democrat and a woman, after a long line of male speakers. Why do Americans expect her and her staff to fly commercial when her recent male Republican predecessors, while second in line for the presidency, did not?

The speaker of the House of Representative of the United States of America needs secure transportation, party and gender aside.
