Waste of money

Congratulations to Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims for going forward for a new, bigger jail. The jail is way too small. People are staying in jail too long. Our courts are too small and move too slowly.

Sixteen hours or more the courtrooms are vacant. From 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the most they are used fewer than eight hours. They are not being used 16 hours a day. What a waste of courts, space and time.

Los Angeles has had night courts at different times for years. Some hours are from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. -- that's four hours. If they would use a night court for the jail inmates only, they could knock down the overcrowding of the jail for sure.

Using the courts for fewer than eight hours a day is a waste of courtrooms and taxpayers' money. Our courts are not being used the way they should be. That is a waste of taxpayers' money -- in more ways than one.
