The story about another death linked to a Taser [Jan. 21] made me realize that there seems to be a pattern, and I couldn't help wondering about the safety of Tasers as a non-lethal weapon.
I truly understand that police officers must defend themselves from people who are sometimes under the influence of drugs and alcohol, but there must be a better way to protect and serve.
I propose that along with receiving a Taser gun, each car be equipped with a defibrillator just in case a suspect stops breathing after being tased. This handy machine could be the difference between life and death. It would probably save the city time defending its departments with costly investigations and lawsuits, and more importantly it would, at the very least, save a life. After all, don't we all deserve a chance at life?
