Up to Iraqi people

Leaders may be born or they may be made, but one thing is for sure -- leaders must lead. The man presently leading the new Iraqi government, Nouri al-Maliki, must do exactly that. He must now show true leadership and find a way to keep the other members of his government in focus and on target.

That target is for the Iraqi people to take charge of their country's destiny with the help of their allies. The Iraqi leadership would do well to read the words of George Washington spoken to his troops on July 7, 1776: "The fate of unborn millions will now depend on the courage and conduct of this army. We have, therefore, to resolve to conquer or die."

It is time for the Iraqi people to step up to the plate and swing hard.
