'Strange position'

The Bee's credibility is severely strained when you print trash like John Quigley's column [Vision Jan. 14].

Obviously a Jew-hater of the first water, the professor neglects to mention that the Palestinians were given every opportunity to share Palestine with the Israelis when partition was mandated by the U.N. in 1948. The Arabs wanted all!

The professor also fails to mention that it was the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Amin al-Husseini, who declared jihad in 1948, and who ordered the Palestinian Arabs to leave so as to not impede the five Arab armies -- those of Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Trans-Jordan and Iraq -- poised to attack the Israelis. There would be plenty of time for them to return to rape, rob, pillage and destroy once the Mediterranean ran red with Jewish blood.

Last, but not least, the professor states that Hamas would be willing to settle for a Palestinian state next to Israel. That's a rather strange position to be attributed to an organization that denies Israel's very right to exist. Evidently, the professor also denies that right.
