There has been lots of hype about the number of American deaths in Iraq in four years. Shouldn't we be doing a daily count on the number of homicides in the state of California per day?
A little box on the editorial page with the number would say it all. Homicides at a rate of 34,584 over the span of 10 years (1990 to 1999) -- that is 9.5 per day. More people are killed in California in one year than the number of killed in four years of armed Iraq conflict.
