'Outlaw' fireplaces

In response to Dolores Gipson's letter [Jan. 3] re burning of firewood for heat: I feel that the only place it should be done is in the mountains where that is the only source of heat. We all know that fireplaces are not efficient as a heat source, and with the poor air quality in our Valley, I vote to outlaw them completely.

Scientific study already shows how many more people, children included, have developed asthma in the Valley. It is really unpleasant to take an evening winter walk when the smoke smells so bad and burns the throat.

But then, maybe those who want to ignore this are also those who don't care about our future generations and want to succumb to the belief that "everything gives you cancer" anyway.
