To those Bee readers who may have lost a precious pet (I am mostly referring to dogs) due to the fireworks and gunfire of New Year's Eve celebrations, may I please remind them to check out the local SPCA for their animal companion.
Do not call the SPCA, but physically go to the shelter, and be sure and visit all the kennels. It is most important that they check the stray building and quarantine areas, as well as the hospital.
Do not give up searching for your pet after a few days. Go there often, every two to three days, for as many months as you can. Stray pets can show up weeks after they have gotten away from their owners. People have been known to find a pet a year or more after it has been lost.
Your animal friends deserve your persistence in trying to be reunited.
