I thank Lloyd Carter for his Dec. 27 letter reporting about the true costs of the Iraq war. It will cost more than $2.3 trillion, said Joseph Stigletz, former chief economist of the World Bank. He made this estimate and also said one-fourth of that money would have solved America's Social Security crisis for the next 75 years.
Think about that for awhile. What a dreadful waste of our taxpayers' money for war's destruction, sorrow, wounding and killing in Iraq. Is this our U.S. government working for the people -- to protect us? It seems like there are more terrorists now than before the U.S. invaded Iraq.
