So, mayors Antonio Villaraigosa and Alan Autry want to run the school districts. Did it ever occur to the two gentlemen that perhaps they ran for the wrong office, if they have so much wisdom to impart on operating schools? Could it be that "school trustee" is just not held in high enough esteem for their exalted egos? Or is it a pure power quest?
Well-fed, well-clothed, well-housed children coming from homes of employed parents in crime-free communities would make it possible for educators to concentrate on educational matters. I would suggest that the mayors take care of these social issues within their own purview, leaving school boards an opportunity to get back to education matters.
