'Beyond comprehension'

Re: "Experts say U.S. can't fix Iraq" [story Nov. 28]: Finally, some higher echelon people are getting the message that I and many other Bee readers have been saying all along.

Iraq is not conducive to being a free and independent democratic state. The warring factions, religious beliefs and other ancient customs will keep on dividing the people until eternity.

Pessimistic? How can one expect a solution to the sectarian violence if a good portion of it is done with a religious overtone? To be rewarded with paradise by torturing and killing innocent men, women and children, all in the name of a supreme deity, is beyond comprehension in our western culture.

The war on terrorism is not going to be won by the sword.
