'Making a difference'

I'd like to commend Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer and the Fresno Police Department for their excellent job targeting drunken drivers (story Nov. 22). I'm sure there are people out there who agree with me.

Drunken driving is the most frequently committed violent crime in the United States. We should not tolerate placing the lives of loved ones in danger. Nobody intends to hurt anybody when they start to drink -- but it happens.

I lost my only son to someone who was drinking and driving.

Many times the public has been asked to designate a sober driver or find another safe ride home. Many people during the holidays believe that after drinking they are capable of driving, regardless whether they are capable or not.

It tugs at my heart that there are people still drinking and getting behind the wheel. Chief Dyer is making a difference with his campaign against drinking and driving. He's only focusing on this to protect everyone on our roads and highways.

Message reminder: A sober driver is a safe driver.
