In a day and age where teens dying in after-school fights and having sex in school restrooms are making front page news, how refreshing it was to read The Bee's coverage [Nov. 20] of our local high school marching bands and the Western Band Association State Championships. These talented and dedicated students exemplify what it means to be positive role models.
They are willing to practice hours each week and give up weekends to perfect their artistic craft. Perseverance, teamwork, dedication and a strive for excellence are not words typically used when talking about high school students.
In the words of Clovis West High School's Marissa Honda, "Music alone can influence the souls of millions." It is my hope that these students and their dedicated spirit will influence the souls, minds and future for the next generations.
