Editorial Page Editor Jim Boren [column Nov. 12] renews the drum-thumping for redistricting reform. One reason the 2005 initiative was "lumped in" with the governor's reform package, and was defeated, was The Bee's emphasis on election costs for things which could wait until 2006.
And a columnist with a Bee connection called it a "boondoggle." We've seen what the Sacramento politicians have not done and likely will not do for 2008.
Another factor was the public employee vilification of the governor, which continued into this year, but did not work. The California Correctional Peace Officers Association, in a classic bit of irony, continues to belabor the governor about -- of all things -- prison reform.
