Re "High energy bill?" Sept. 14:
Turn off lights we are not using.
Cut back on lights we do use.
Adjust the thermostat.
Maintain the refrigerator and freezer.
Use the oven and stovetop less.
Turn computers off.
Run only full loads.
The article overlooked the fact that sometimes inaccurate meter readings also result in higher energy bills. Especially during a heat wave or exceptionally cold winter, it may help to reduce a high-energy bill if the consumer also checks the electric and gas meter prior to or on the day that the meter will be read.
Compare it for accuracy with the electric and gas reading on that month's utility bill. The Pacific Gas & Electric Reading Schedule is sent out in November for the following year.
