Recruiting physicians

We are fortunate to have a group of dedicated, senior physicians caring for us. Their commitment compensates for a significant problem in the Valley -- the difficulty in recruiting competent physicians to the area.

Virtually every specialty in our region is trying to attract physicians. However, our weather, air quality and competition from Southern California and the Bay Area make it difficult to compete. This occurs despite the fact that a highly qualified, newly arrived physician's practice in Fresno is busy from the outset, whereas the same physician may take years to develop such an opportunity in California's more urban areas.

One way to ease the problem is to change Medicare reimbursement rates that penalize physicians in our area. Physicians practicing in the Bay Area typically receive 25% more than those working in Fresno for performing the same task. Equal pay for equal tasks would help our recruiting situation immeasurably.
