Cuts both ways

As a 77-year-old physician in active private practice in Fresno, I was somewhat bemused by the Nov. 12 article "Too needed to retire."

Nowhere in the comments made by the five identified physicians (who have practiced medicine into their 70s) was there mention of what I regard as the most salient factor keeping healthy and competent physicians in medical practice later in life: we physicians need our patients at least as much as they need us.
