I had just gotten home from work and sat down to watch the 5 o'clock news when I heard these horrible words from the TV: "Deadly fistfight leaves one 13-year-old dead."
I started to cry as I heard this. I am very deeply saddened and send my condolences to the victim's family. Why did it have to come down to this to wake school officials up? It took a death to make them realize they have a problem with school violence they need to address.
I believe school officials, law enforcement and parents have to come together and stop school violence whether it be on or off campus. After- and before-school programs should be implemented and curricula should be provided to students to help provide positive social skills. The Web site http://www.sacsheriff.com/crime_prevention/ provides everyone with ways to help stop school violence. We can stop another tragedy like this if everyone works together.
