It shouldn't come as any surprise that builders and developers are the major financial backers of Measure C. Theirs is a small investment for a windfall return. The new freeways in Measure C provide more areas for suburban sprawl, a favorite of no one but developers. Many of the local road funds are for road widening on the outskirts of towns in the county. That shifts the burden from the developers, who should pay for such projects, to the taxpayer. Trail improvements and bike lanes are also developers' responsibilities.
It's no wonder that Fresno remains the butt of jokes when it can seriously propose a regressive sales tax measure to subsidize the wealthiest and most well-connected interests in town. People get the government they deserve; vote "no" on Measure C.
