The Big Fresno Fair drew a remarkable attendance and offered a few new attractions. I attended each of the 12 days in order to admire the Pirate Ship, to view the Fresno County 150-year exhibit, to visit with friends (many of whom are regular vendors I've met over the past nine years), and to attend the horse races. The photography entries were competitive, as were the junior exhibit drawing entries.
What was not impressive was the entertainment lineup. I learned why from a conversation with one of the concert sound crew. Apparently, the Fair Board chose to enlist the services of a professional entertainment outfit that failed the listening audience by not scheduling a jazz artist, by not seeking current top-chart country artists and by including a poorly attended comedy act. In short, the event was not a complete success.
